5 Aug (Esther 8)

Esther 8

(v.2) Like Joseph and Daniel, Mordecai went from nothing to in charge of the kingdom. This is important to point out to our kids...that no matter how insignificant they may think they are, God loves to use humble and godly people to do great things!

(v.8) As with Babylon where King Nebuchadnezzar couldn't revoke his decree, another one had to be made to nullify it. This is similar to the US Constitution...the 18th Amendment outlawed the sale of alcohol in the nation...it was called Prohibition. When they found that this only brought more drinking and a whole black market syndicate that was profiting off the backs of the public, they made the 21st Amendment. Like in this case with Esther, the original decree was kept in place, and a new one was created to nullify it...this way, we see our mistakes, and we remember what we did in the past to learn from them.

(v.17) I teach my kids that the people didn't become Jews for fear of them necessarily, but they saw how the Jews worshiped and glorified God! They wanted that kind of peace and joy...we should be that way now, and have others want what we have...a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe...Jesus!
