1 May (1 Kings 16)

1st Kings 16

(v.12) As we read these accounts of the kings of Israel, we see greed and blasphemy as the common traits. I remind my kids, that these kings came into being kings, by birth or by killing the king himself. Not one of them, except Jeroboam, was called to be king by God. This is what God warned Israel about way back when they wanted Saul to be their king...that men would rule with an iron fist, and not serve them.

(v.25) Not only did Omri do evil like his fathers did, but he did WORSE! That is an accomplishment of evil!

(v.29) It seems that each king wants to out-do their predecessors by doing even more evil.

(v.31) Ahab marries Jezebel, and we will learn how evil she is in the coming chapters, and she's also referenced in Rev 2:20-21

(v.32) The pagan god, Baal, will be prevalent in the rest of the Bible. It is satanic, and the cause of many to reject God.
